Post Operative for Extraction

  1. DO NOT RINSE MOUTH FOR HOURS: Tomorrow rinse mouth gently every 3 to 4 hours (especially after meals) using 1/4 teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water. Continue rinses for several days.

  2. DO NOT DRINK THROUGH A STRAW FOR 24 HOURS

  3. DO NOT SPIT OUT FOR HOURS

  4. BLEEDING: Following extractions some bleeding is to be expected. If bleeding persists place gauze over the bleeding area and bite down firmly for 1/2 hour. Repeat if necessary.

  5. SWELLING: Ice bag or chopped ice wrapped in a towel should be applied to operated area 1/2 hour of and on for 4 to 5 hours.

  6. PAIN: For mild to average pain use any non-aspirin type of medication you like.

  7. FOOD: Light diet is advisable during the first 24 hours.

  8. BONY EDGES: Small sharp bone fragments may work up through the gums during healing. These are not roots.

  9. If they become annoying please return to this office for their simple removal.

  10. If any unusual symptoms occur, call the office at once 239-732-4657

Post-Whitening Care Instructions

For the next 48 hours, dark staining substances should be avoided, such as:

  • Coffee and/or tea

  • Tobacco Products

  • Mustard or Ketchup

  • Cola

  • Red Wine

  • Soy Sauce

  • Berry Pie

  • Red Sauces

  • Avoid staining related habits.

  • Use an automated toothbrush.

  • Seek regular professional dental hygiene care to maintain oral health, keep staining to a minimum and determine the need for whitening touch-ups.

  • Practice good oral hygiene including thorough tooth brushing, flossing to remove debris from between the teeth, and tongue cleaning. Your dental professional will assist you in selecting the products to maintain not only a white smile, but a healthy one as well!
